Chic Geek

I want an iPad just so I can get this DVF bag to carry it around in.

SO Chic.

Don't be fooled by the Rocks that I got.

For the past month I have been seriously obsessed with natural stone jewelry! There is something just so sleek looking about it. Not to mention I fell in love with the one-of-a-kind Dara Ettinger earring Serena wore this week on Gossip Girl.

Here are a few different pieces I like.

Not so simple stones

p.s. I'm dying for these in black and gold! (MBY I just love them for them, not the namesake!)

It's Personal

For those who know me, should know that I don't want to be super personal on my blog so I'll spare the details on this post. But I just want to put it out there that I am in a long distance relationship. I don't think I've ever really said it out loud before, it just sounds to foreign to me. The truth of the matter is I am, my boyfriend MG lives in DC and I am at the University of Alabama finishing out the next year to year and a half.

I had a friend tell me it takes a lot of energy to miss someone and even more to make it work. I totally agree with this statement. To be honest missing someone is exhausting, but the thing is I wouldn't have it any other way.

I just wish everyone could find someone just as wonderful as MG because he is the best. He answers the phone when I call him at 2am, he listens to me complain that a friend didn't ask invite me to go to Gallettes, and he remembers how I once said how much I love pink peonies.

Long story short, long distance relationships are hard but are worth it.

Let. It. Out.

So the past week I have been doing major venting to anyone who would listen (thanks to all those that did listen). My poor boyfriend MG has gotten the worst of it and he doesn't need any extra stress in his life since he is starting a new job this week. It's awful because I hear myself pouring it out and can't stop myself. Now instead of unloading on others I'm trying to channel my emotions in other ways.

1. Work Outs.
Whether it's a hard core strength training or a 30 minute spin while I read, working out my frustrations is much more healthy for me.

2. Crafts
I made use of this outlet when I was alone this weekend and cranked out two adorable picture frames, one chevron and one ikat. (I posted pics if you follow me on instagram)

3. Productivity
I have a million things I want to do over the next couple of months and I really need to update my resumé. So I'm going to put more time into making list of things I want to do and start writing cover letters and hopefully make some great things happen for myself. (anyone have John Mayer's Where the Light is CD?, he talks about how in your twenties "I made it happen for myself" is a big phrase)

How do you deal with your issues?

Jason Wu for Target

Unless you've been living under a rock then you would know that Jason Wu is doing a line for Target. I have a feeling all the items will fly off the shelves just as they did when Missoni launched their line for Target.

Here are my favorite items from the line:

hair today, there tomorrow

I was out with some friends last week and one of them turned to me and asked how I get my hair so shiny and I honesty didn't know what to tell her. Since I was around age 8 I have had people compliment how shiny my hair is and I have always just thought it was due to my natural hair color (red for those who don't know). After thinking about it I really try to treat my hair as healthy as possible, minus the prolonged haircut that happens from time to time.

Here are the products I use.

For everyday use: Suave Professionals Rosemary Mint
(when I'm home and my mom is buying my hair products I use Aveda, Privè, or Lakmè products)

For when I need to get rid of build up: Neutrogena Anti-residue shampoo

Deep Conditioner: Privè intensive mask
I use this once a week

I also rarely use a flat iron on my hair. I usually airdry or section off my hair to blow out with a round brush.

Obsessed.

So I have this great friend who is a fashion design major. A couple of months ago she drew a couple of different fashion croquis and I've been begging for the scans/copies and tonight she finally emailed me one of the images with a little something extra!
How great is that?!
(sorry the image is smaller... it was my only option)

I strongly encourage all of you to go to her website to check out her designs for Birmingham Fashion Week.

Quick Survey

Am I the only blogger that isn't hung up on Olivia Palermo and Alexa Chung? Both of these "style icons" have been on C List MTV shows, The City (the spinoff, spinoff of Laguna Beach) and It's on with Alex Chung. Over the past couple of months I have been been trying my best to figure out what makes people go crazy for their style.

Yes both of these women have rail thin bodies most people would kill for. But does being an Heiress* and owning multiple Birkins or being a model with a chic haircut make you an Style Icon?

In my opinion anyone who has access to wonderful, high-end designer goods should be able to dress well. What makes someone a "style icon" is someone who can mix vintage with modern all why shopping at places such as Target, Forever 21, and H&M or someone who takes risks.  I'm sad to say some of my favorite bloggers are moving towards only blogging about high end goods that aren't exactly inspiring. I'm having to clean out my daily reads due to this.

Who is your favorite style icon/fashion blogger?

Reading Request

Over the weekend I had a mishap with my Kindle and cracked the screen, but lucky for me I had a warranty and I already have my the replacement in my hands. I'm looking for a new read that I can pick up and put back down.

My Considerations:

Any other suggestions out there?

Current Lust: Celine Bag

Isn't this picture just swoon worthy? (via Glitter Guide)

I feel like every day I'm on tumblr, I see dozens of images of gorgeous Celine bags. While the $2,000 price tag isn't too appealing, compared to the Birkin it's just pocket change.

Sealed with a Smile

One of my New Years resolutions this year is to skip the email and instead reach for the pen.  In the past I have only ever written via snail mail for three primary reasons: 1. Thank You Cards 2. a response to a letter (which usually ends up stampless in my backpack for months at a time) 3. writing letters at summer camp hoping to get a response.

This year though I want to put all of my beautiful stationery to good use. I can't even begin to count how many different sets of stationery sit in storage under my desk. So this year I resolute to write someone once a week, whether it be a letter home to my Nana or a note to a sweet friend.

Over the holiday weekend I finished up a few overdue notes

I love coordinating envelopes

Hopefully later on this year I'll reach my goal of learning calligraphy to go along with my penning.

Turning a New Page

I am officially back for 2012! There are so many exciting things that I want to make happen this year, but first thing first I needed a new agenda.

While I love my handy "Studying Hard or Hardly Studying" agenda from Target, I needed something a little more Grown up? So for the past month I have been on the hunt for the perfect agenda for me. I looked into Moleskin, Kate Spade, Lilly Pulitzer and nearly purchased a Jonathan Adler one on Ruelala this morning. A problem I kept running into was that all of these agendas where from August 2011-December 2012 and I wanted something fresh and new for 2012.

This is where May Books stepped in. They are a company out of Dallas (any company from my hometown is a plus) who believes "Life is too short for ugly notebooks". Not only are there tons of different great outer designs to chose from, but you can also customize each book to your liking. There are options for weekly or monthly planners, meal planners, or just plain notebooks. They even give you to option to monogram your May Book exactly to your liking. Their prices range from $10-$20 with a flat $6 shipping rate.

I can hardly contain my excitement for my monogrammed Ikat agenda to arrive in the mail!
Hope you've started 2012 on a fresh page!

xoxo.

I'm Here!

I'm still recovering from a fabulous winter break and a quick trip to New Orleans!
